At Kismet Farms, we charge a flat monthly training fee for horses and riders instead of varied a la carte rates for each service provided throughout the month.

A la carte services vs. a monthly training fee, what’s the difference?
Let’s start with lessons and schooling rides:
- Each group or private lesson is $75- $120
- Schooling rides are $100 (plus grooming for each ride $20)
Based on most weeks, each rider/horse combination takes 2-3 lessons, and the horse gets 1-2 schooling sessions or hacks. Based on just rides/lessons alone, this can range from a low of $270 to a high of $490 per week.
Then there are the add-on services available… Based on other comparable facilities and programs that publish their fees, this is an average of cost of services provided (these are monthly unless noted otherwise). All of these fees can be verified on outsourced websites.
- Turn out, usually 3x per week: $150
- Removal and return of blankets: $100
- Supplement feeding (grain): $60
- Hand walking $25 per instance
- Minor vet care $20 per instance
- Grooming and tacking up: $250
- Holding, scheduling, assisting for farrier or veterinary services: $80
Average of one week with blanketing, shot clinic assistance, assisting farrier, daily turnout, grain, and a hand walk would run on average $180+. Again, that is for one week. And yes, that is a pretty normal week.
This is why most trainers, and we at Kismet Farms, have gone to a flat rate training model. It allows clients the most lessons and services for one consistent fee. No guessing what the end of the month bill will total, and the professional can count on a reliably steady income. These monthly training fees are at a substantial discount when compared to the pay as you go format.
